A Cultural Adventure for Curious Minds
Our playgroup sessions bring First Nations stories to life through song, storytelling and creative play. Children explore the Yuwi language while discovering Aboriginal ways of knowing, doing and being. Each session invites connection, laughter and curiosity as young learners experience Country through all their senses.
This one-hour session costs $385 for 20 students, plus $20 per additional student. It’s a fun, meaningful way to introduce culture, kindness and respect to early learners.
Singing and Sharing Stories
Children begin with songs they already know. We gently replace some words with Yuwi words. This sparks interest and opens their ears to another language. During story time, teddies and books bring Aboriginal stories to life. We talk about animals, behaviour and our deep connection to Country. Every child feels involved and proud to learn new words.
Emu Playtime
Next comes movement and making. We talk about emus—their lives, habits and importance in culture. Children then create their own emu crowns using real emu feathers. The feathers feel soft and strong, just like the learning that happens in the circle.
Ochre Crushing and Painting
Children love this part. They crush ochre and paint using stencils. As they work, we yarn about the giving hand and taking hand in Aboriginal art. This gentle lesson teaches balance, respect and gratitude. Every pattern holds a story, and every colour carries meaning.
Hunting and Animals
To finish, we explore traditional hunting and the rules Aboriginal people lived by. Children handle safe, educational examples of tools like nulla nullas and soft animal skins. They learn through touch, curiosity and play. This activity builds awareness, care and appreciation for the land and its creatures.
