Aboriginal First Nations Cultural Awareness Training

First Nations Cultural Awareness Training

Walk Together with Respect

Our Aboriginal Cultural Awareness Training builds understanding through story, reflection and shared learning. Facilitated by Melanie Kemp, a proud Yuwi Ghungalu descendant, this session helps participants engage respectfully with Aboriginal peoples, families and communities.

This two-hour program costs $150 + GST per person. It suits 10 to 30 participants and is available for workplaces, schools and community groups. High school sessions are also available in the Mackay Region.

Learn Through Experience and Story

Melanie shares knowledge drawn from culture and lived experience. Participants explore Aboriginal ways of knowing, being and doing. Each activity encourages open conversation, challenges stereotypes and deepens understanding. Together, participants learn how to create culturally safe spaces and build genuine relationships.

Explore History and Culture

The session begins with an introduction to the diversity and resilience of Aboriginal nations across Australia. Melanie guides participants through local history, sharing stories of Country, community and connection. She discusses historical Australian policies such as protection, assimilation and the Stolen Generations. Each topic helps participants understand how history continues to shape communities today.

Strengthen Cultural Safety

Participants learn how to work respectfully with Aboriginal families and recognise kinship and community ties. Melanie shares practical tools for engaging with Aboriginal employees and supporting inclusive, safe workplaces. The session also explores cultural appropriation, explaining why it matters and how to celebrate culture appropriately.

A guided reflection helps participants identify authentic ways to embed Aboriginal culture in their environment. Together, the group walks through examples of displays, language use and practices that honour culture with respect.
